So here's my first contribution to the shared topic of Blog Azeroth. It is the fourth suggested topic so far and to me the most appealing to start with.
You better get yourself some tea or coffee... This will take me some time, or better said: space. ;)

Algabal (warlock)
Algabal, also and better known as Elagabalus was a Roman emperor and, in the 19th century, became sort of a muse to the Decadent movement, mainly standing as a metaphor for an amoral aestheticism.
I didn't encounter him through an historic approach though, but through literature. In an university reading I learned about Stefan George's cycle of poem Algabal.
I loved the poems, I loved the way the professor presented them to us and I love WoW. And which character would suit decadence and decay better than a warlock? So, in this lecture, my undead warlock was born. Plus, it also nicely met my 'A's (for a while, all my characters seemed to start with an A).

Anurien (priest)
I more or less made up this name. Anu is a female name in Finland and one of my favorites. As it sounds sort of dark, I felt it suited the shadow priest well. But with the suffix rien added, it would also do for a healer. Thus, it suits her two-faced personality well.
I acutally think that this is a quite typical RPG name (if such a thing is existing.)

Adalante (rogue)
Is once more derived from literature, this time from Greek mythology. Atalanta was raised in the woods by a group of hunters.
Hunters? Yap, you read right. And no, I wasn't mistaken choosing a rogue for the name. I disliked the hunter class for a long time (the more I am in love with it now), but loved the sound of the name. Also, my husband and I started to play the rogues together, his being named Belfagor - Belfagor & Adalante sounds great, doesn't it? ;)

Nolah (paladin)
Was intended to be a Nola, but of course the name was taken. Couldn't resist to add the 'h', which I normally don't do (if a name is taken, it's taken). Just the evening before I had seen Woody Allen's movie Match Point with Scarlett Johansson playing the character Nola Rice. Loved the movie, love the actor and the simplicity of the name.

Malven (druid)
Malven is the German plural form of the flower hollyhock/mallow (had to check this in the dictionary, don't know which name is more common). I think the flower just suites her so well, being a taure and a druid. It's just that I always feel she is so naiv and cute when I play her, loveable as the flower is.

Eryys (warrior)
Was my first character in WoW. I had to make up the name quickly, because my brother was sitting next me, urgently waiting for me to get started so he could show me how to play the game.
Bah. He should have known it would take me forever to decide on a name! Anyways, he pressed me and Eryys was born. Liked the name though everybody seemed to have problems pronounciating it.
I wanted it to be short, hard sounding at the edges (the E and the S) and lovely in the middle - voila.

Nashtuk (hunter)
I don't know how I came up with this one. I like that it can be shortened to Nash (by the way, it is not intended to be spoken with an English pronounciation) and I like the 'tuk' (it is possible that some Tolkien was involved in the name, subconscious though).

Allerleirauh (mage)
Here comes literature once more. Allerleirauh is the title of and a character in one of the Brother Grimm's fairy tales. I spent a lot of time with these fairy tales in the winter 2006/2007 as I was rereading all 200 of them and later on writing my master thesis paper about parts of them. As I never even once stopped playing WoW while my graduation went on, I think it is quite logical that parts of my ongoings in RL entered the game.
I think the name suits a mage very well, as it can either mean 'all sorts of rough' [add treatment here ;)] or 'all sorts of fumes'[with all the magic fuss a mage produces, there must be some sort of smoke ;)] - note that the original name probably is referring to the child's poor clothing, made of all sorts of rough furs.

Tulpen (shaman)
Again, as with Malven, this is a flower name. It simply means Tulips. As her hair resembles the color of a yellow tulip and I had and have an interesting fan-fiction starring her and Malven in mind, it was an obvious choice for me. Plus, tulips are my favorite flowers. ;)

Phew!
That was some kind of hard work. Now I definitely need some coffee...
See you! =)
